#Amsterdambucketlist: Brouwerij ‘t IJ

Forget about the Heineken Experience and go visit a brewery that is still in use and visited by locals.

Brouwerij ‘t IJ

Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday you can take a look backstage at how the Brouwerij ‘t IJ beer is made. There is a tour in English (at 3.30 pm.) and in Dutch (at 4 pm.) and the tour lasts about 30 minutes. In this half an hour you will learn all the ins and outs about the specialty beers. The tour only costs € 4,50 and that includes one beer! If you liked the taste of that one beer come in to the pub to taste some more beers! You order the beers at the bar and can sit inside, but I would recommend you go and take a seat on the nice terrace that Brouwerij ‘t IJ also has to offer. Here you will forget about the time while you taste the different beers and munch on salami, cheese and typical Amsterdam ossenworst. In case you are there with someone who does not like beer or can’t drink beer (gluten allergy or pregnant?) the guys of Brouwerij ‘t IJ have created a tasty lemonade of bloodorange and hibuscus. So there is literally no excuse in not paying a visit to Brouwerij ‘t IJ.

How to get there

Are you putting Brouwerij ‘t IJ on your Amsterdam bucket list too? The brewery is situated in the east part of the center and you can seriously escape the busy tourist filled centre here. From the Leidseplein area you can catch tram number 10 and get off at the stop Hoogte Kadijk. From central station its bus 22 and stop Oostenburgergracht. And from Rembrandtplein you can catch tram 14 and get off at stop Pontanusstraat. But if you want to visit it like a real local would? Rain of shine, you just ride your bike there!
